Coaching youth players is a very fulfilling and rewarding experience. The MLBTB Soccer Club appreciates your time and dedication to this important role.
Please review the requirements below for all potential Travel Soccer Coaches:
- Background Check (Annual): During the process of registering your child through your MTBTB Soccer account, you can select a volunteer opportunity available to you. During this step, coaches will be asked to input information and select the option for NJ Youth Soccer to initiate a background check. Please ensure that your Social Security Number is provided for the background check to be completed. The SSN input section can be found in the 'Volunteer" section on the left hand side of the account page.
- State Certificate: All Travel Coaches must complete and obtain the State Certificate (Formerly the NJYS F Certificate) through the New Jersey Youth Soccer Association (NJYSA). If you do not have your state certification, you will need to register for an upcoming session. Please check out NJ Youth Soccer for more information and class availability. If there isn't sufficient availability, you may be able to get certified online through U.S. soccer coaching education. Once completed, you will need to upload your certificate into your MLBTB SC account. We recommend that you also keep a copy for your records. There is no annual renewal requirement.
- Abuse Prevention Training: The online Abuse Training Course information will be provided once your registration with the State is complete. It takes approximately 30 minutes. The SafeSports system starts to slow down as it gets closer to the start of the season due to a higher than usual volume of users.
- Concussion Training: The Heads Up to Youth Sports On-Line Training is a one-time course. Please download the completion certificate and upload it into your volunteer profile in your MLBTB Soccer account. Once coaches have received a certificate of completion there should be no renewals needed.
Tips about the process:
- The background check, Abuse Prevention Training and Concussion Training is initiated after you have completed registration and training with NJ Youth Soccer. The Board's Travel Committee will provide all new coaches with directions and next steps to obtain these certificates.
- All Travel Coaches must be approved by the Travel Committee before their role is finalized. Even if you complete all of the requirements, coaches will not be assigned to a team until approved by MLBTB Soccer Club Travel Committee.
- Parent coaches are NOT allowed to be on the field with players (practice or games) until approved by the MLBTB Soccer Club Travel Committee and NJ Youth Soccer.
